I thought I'd share this thought that came across my mind recently following my parent's decision to donate the monetary gift that was given to them at the Christmas party. This may come across as their reluctance to receive a generous gift by some but I actually see it in another light as I reflected on that moment.
I sense God reminding me through this incident that we are blessed so that we can be a blessing to others. When we do this with a genuine attitude of generosity, it reflects who God is in a broken world. I'm not sure about you but there are times where I think to myself "why am I blessed with finances, a good job, a good home, good family and friends etc...when there are millions of people around the globe suffering from starvation, oppression, poverty, homelessness, broken families, drug addictions and the list goes on...? Surely there must be a reason and purpose behind these blessings."
Through this incident, it reminded me that God wants us to be blessed so that we can reach out to others to give them a helping hand whenever we can, whether through our finances or through the gifts, talents, abilities and time He has entrusted to us. After all, we can only give what we have.
I remember the quote from the Spiderman movie "with great power comes with great responsibilities". I believe our responsiblity is to give more when we receive more. Imagine what the world would be like if people carried this attitude in their everyday living? It doesn't have to be much, it could be as little as an expression of our inner joy (smile) that lifts the spirit of a person in need, at the right place, at the right time =) Let's pass on the blessings (joy, love, patience, peace, finances, talents, natural abilities, spiritual gifts) we've been given when the opportunity arises. We can do this! After all, we are extremely blessed by world statistics especially with a loving God who is Love on our side!
