God's Shelter

Yes, this post has come a little late but I hope that this will be a blessing to you as much as God has blessed me with it =)

Reading: Psalm 91

Scripture

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." (Psalm 91:1-2)

Observation

As I observe the text, I ask "what is a shelter?". To me a shelter is a place of security, a place of protection, a place where I can find rest, a place of belonging and a place of comfort. In this scripture God promises to provide a spiritual shelter for me right where I am. Not only does He provide a shelter, He is my fortress - a defensive base that protects me from the enemy. What a promise! But like any shelter, it is up to me to enter it. The choice to enter His shelter and dwell in Him is mine.

Application

What a timely word! Despite the heavy workload at work and commitments in other areas of life, God promises a shelter of security, protection, rest, belonging and comfort. Today I choose to take His shelter and dwell in His presence. I want to spend more time in His shelter through personal devotions so that I can endure through the challenges with Him on my side.

Prayer

Father, I thank you for your word! I thank you that you freely invite me to your shelter that offers me protection, security, rest, belonging and comfort no matter what challenges I face. Lord, I pray that you give me a heart that yearns for you so that I will run to your shelter first when things get tough. Seal these promises in my heart God - my refuge and my fortress. Thank you for your faithfulness! Amen!
