Clem's Devotion

Scripture
James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God who gives to all liberally and without reproach and it will be given to him.
James 1:6 But let him ask in faith without doubting for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.
James 1:7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord, he is a double minded man, unstable in all ways.

Observation:
Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, exhorts us through James to ask God for wisdom if we lack it (all of us), and God will gladly give this to us willingly and lavishly. When we ask God for wisdom, we are really asking for Him, because Jesus is wisdom (Col 2:3, 1 Corinthians 1:30). He is the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, and enables us to know Him more (Eph 1)

However, we should not doubt when we ask God for this. Doubting is the opposite of faith, which is restful trusting in God, knowing that if He promises something, He will do it. Without faith, it is impossible to please God, and a man who doubts is of 2 minds, is going in 2 directions, and therefore is unstable. You can only go in God’s direction, believing what he says is true and therefore trusting Him, or you can go in the other direction and not believe that what God says is true à ie. Say that He is a liar. If you don’t believe God, you are saying that He is a liar.

Application:
1) We all lack wisdom, so we should ask God to enable us to know Him better, because He is wisdom
2) We all lack wisdom, so we should renew our minds by reading and meditating on His word, with the help of the Holy Spirit (Spirit of wisdom and revelation), so that we will know Him more. (As Jesus is the word)
3) When we pray and ask God for something according to His word and promises, we should believe that we have received it, and restfully trust in His promise. We should put all our eggs in God’s basket, without any alternatives/backup plans except that God will do what He promise. This is true faith.

Prayer:
Father, I readily admit that I lack wisdom and that I need my life to manifest more of you in it. Thankyou that you are wisdom, and I surrender every part of my life to you, so that you can have more of me, because I already have all of you living in me. Lord help me to renew my mind daily through your word, so that I can test and approve and show your perfect will in my day to day living. Thankyou that you have said that I have the mind of Christ. Lord help me to have faith in you. Help me to ask and receive and not doubt, help me not to be double minded, but help me to be single minded in my trust of you. Forgive me in the past when I have doubted, and made you out to be a liar, when in fact you are truth and faithful. In Jesus name, Amen.
