Richard's Devotion
Scripture: 1 Chron 17:7-8
I took you from the pasture and from following the flock, to be ruler over my people Israel. I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make your name like the name like the names of the greatest men of the earth.
Observation
This is God's promise to David after David brought back the ark of God to Jerusalem and after David gave thanks to God for His miraculous wonders in delivering Israel from its enemies. In this scripture, God responds to David's act of worship with an awesome promise; to become the greatest man of the earth (a hero of faith) from the humble beginnings of a shepherd (someone of low status in ancient society). A complete turn around all because of David's obedience and humble heart. God reassures David of His faithfulness and sovereignty over his life even from the time he was a shepherd. God revealed this to David to give him confidence that He will continue to do great things through David.
Application
Looking back on my journey, I am reminded of the victories that were orchestrated by God in my life, where I can not deny His faithfulness and sovereignty over my life. I count this a wonderful privilege and I want to continually give thanks to God for all He has done for me and for His grace upon my life. It's a wonderful privilege to know that the God of the universe is my friend and chooses to walk with me no matter what. Wherever the journey, whether it's to be the light in the home, to serve my life group as a leader or to be a person of influence in the work place, I can be assured that He holds my past, my present and my future firmly in His hands and orchestrates events in my life for a reason. It is this assurance that gives me confidence to continue to fight the good fight of faith even when I am against the odds. I am greatly encouraged from this passage that God can turn things around in my life (just like He did for David) provided that I am obedient to His call and allow Him to mold me into the person He wants me to be so that His name may be glorified.
Prayer
Father, I thank You for Your word. Thank You so much that You are a Friend who chooses to journey with me in the good times and the tough times. I also thank You for orchestrating events in my life that is a constant reminder of your grace upon my life. As I continue my journey with You, please help me to be obedient to your call and give me a humble heart so that I may become the person you want me to be for the benefit of others. I commit my life into your hands and I will put my confidence in You believing that You can turn my challenges into victories. In Jesus mighty name, amen!
